Esperanto is an artificial language created by L. L. Zamenhof with the hope that it would become an international common or universal language. First PublicationEsperanto was first published as Lingvo Internacia1, but this it was later changed to Esperanto based on L. L. Zamenhof's pen name — Doctor Esperanto. Adoption of UseIn 1987, the centennial year of Esperanto, the United Nations gave an estimate that 8 million people from 130 different countries spoke Esperanto.
